Would you like to advance the cause of alcohol abstinence in your state?

There are many approaches you might consider. One approach is to request a Proclamation from the Office of the Governor of your state. One member of the Alcohol Problems Council of Wisconsin sent a letter and a proposed proclamation to the Governor in Wisconsin.

The cover letter explains your case for the proclamation: the author should be a registered voter in your state.

The drafted proclamation should help the finished product be closer to what you had in mind.  It is generally 4-6 “Whereas”, and then a “Be it Therefore Proclaimed this day” …

If you have a significant date in mind, give the staff 3-4 months advance of that date. You can probably find your state’s proclamations (and the process for requesting a proclamation) on the Web.  The Wisconsin Web site for Proclamations is https://evers.wi.gov/Pages/Newsroom/Proclamations.aspx

Our council member requested a “Wisconsin Sober Day”, a day to celebrate and encourage sobriety. The goal was to have a day when alcohol consumption was discouraged – just for a day. The proclamation establishes a ‘Day”; how everyone implements the celebration of that day is up to the individual.

The staff at the Governor’s office amended the proclamation and named it “Sober Support Day”. Expect some editing and go with whatever final version they agree to. Here is the proclamation issued in Wisconsin.
